The burly tone of multi-reedist Joe Lovano is one of the most recognizable sounds in modern jazz. As a decorated sideman, he’s been heard with everyone from Woody Herman, Dave Holland, McCoy Tyner, Mel Lewis Orchestra, Herbie Hancock, Dr. Lonnie Smith and countless others. But most notably he’s been recognized as a high profile collaborationist from the Saxophone Summit, to a trio with Paul Motion and Bill Frisell, and projects with Hank Jones, Gunther Schuller, and Elvin Jones. His role as a leader since first signing with Blue Note in 1991 has been remarkable, with virtually every album being a singular and fresh statement. The Grammy Award winning Lovano will be performing with his quartet (Lawrence Fields piano, Peter Slavov bass, and Lamy Istrefi drums) for his appearance at this year’s TD Victoria International JazzFest. It has been 20 years since Lovano last performed in Victoria – please help us welcome back this brilliant musical artist.
Opening act will be Victoria’s own award-winning jazz vocalist Maureen Washington
