Originally from Victoria, Berlin-based soprano and pianist Rachel Fenlon accompanies herself in On this Island, a song recital that includes Benjamin Britten’s song cycle On This Island; songs by Ivor Gurney; Britten’s arrangements of works by Purcell; and George Crumb’s cycle, Apparition.
Rachel will perform the same programme later in the month in Oxford and then Vienna.
Rachel Fenlon debuted with Pacific Opera Victoria in 2013 as Nannetta in Falstaff, and the following year returned as Queen Guenevere in Camelot in concert. She is a rising operatic soloist and chamber musician and is committed to performing, curating, and commissioning contemporary music. She is acclaimed for her one-woman Liederabend, with which she tours internationally, singing and accompanying herself on the piano.
