Event Information

The Great Canadian Sing invites you to join in the spectacular countdown of Vancouver Island’s Top Ten winning songs, plus much more special music.  Bringing together Stars of Stage and Screen to lead in and perform the world’s most beloved songs covered by everyone from Elvis to Il Divo – song of praise & inspiration such as How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace and His Eye is on the Sparrow.  This will be a night to remember. Very special guests include 20 million youtube hit sensations Roy & Rosemary, 4 time GMA award-winning Tenore, and the city’s very own beloved songstresses, Stephanie Greaves, Diane Pancel and Charlotte Martin.  Musically directing the show and leading The Great Canadian Sing orchestra will be Karel Roessingh who has played throughout the world in almost every imaginable venue and is one of Victoria’s most prolific pianists and composers. Our non-profit venture for the Gala concert is Project Night Night who provides blankies, stuffies, and children's books to the youngest victims of homelessness.  Focusing on children under five, PNN creates Night Night packages designed to help those who can’t articulate their concerns overcome the anxiety, emotional and mental stress that comes with home displacement.

Roy & Rosemary Bio:

From the stages of Carnegie Hall to Walt Disney World Florida, this Canadian musical sensation has been capturing the hearts of audiences with their fresh musical arrangements, their technical virtuosity and their charismatic style and showmanship

Roy & Rosemary's niche is creating lush and captivating arrangements with a highly cinematic and theatrical influence.  This signature "Roy & Rosemary" sound has gained a huge following through YouTube and their version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" has gone 'viral' with over 20 million views and counting, allowing them to share their sound with the world! 

Roy & Rosemary recently had the distinct honour to perform the world premiere of their composition, “The Courtial Concerto” written for the Ambassador of Rome at the largest sacred music festival in the world, at the Vatican.  

Roy Tan and Rosemary Siemens have already performed in a diverse number of venues ranging from intimate house concerts, to New York’s famed ‘Carnegie Hall’, including a performance as the first ever solo instrumentalist at St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican; at the Egyptian Consulate in Washington DC; at The Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, a private performance at sixteen time GRAMMY winner David Fosters home as well as performances at the Beijing and Vancouver Olympics; and even opening Hockey Night in Canada.  We hope you enjoy Roy & Rosemary the modern take on the Piano/Violin duo!

Tenore Bio:

Tenore is the multiple award-winning tenor group that shot to international acclaim since the release of its debut album, winning the GMA’s Covenant Awards for Traditional Album of the Year, Seasonal Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Fan Choice of the Year across the entire country.

Tenore was founded by Jill Ann Siemens, also Founder of multi-platinum recording group, The Tenors (aka The Canadian Tenors). Tenore's powerhouse vocals are now sought after across North America and around the world. Tenore’s talent roster includes Mark David Williams, Carlos Santiago-Moreno, Shane McConnell, David Wise, Kevin Pauls, Gabriel Burrafato, Shane Wiebe, and Arnold Livingston-Geis.

Performing to sold-out audiences across North America, Tenore has crisscrossed the globe from Kampala to California and, along with live TV and award recognition, has garnered an impressive, loyal and international fan base that begins in Canada and stretches worldwide.

By 2018, Tenore had risen to such acclaim that they were once more sought out to be one of a select group of artist acts to tour the state of Florida in 2020.

They have performed for distinguished events such as the Prime Minister’s Prayer Breakfast in Canada and they have raised considerable money for organizations such a Food for the Hungry, World Vision, as well as stepped-in continuously to assist many worthwhile fundraisers, organizations and children in need.

 

Stephanie Greaves Bio:

Stephanie Greaves is no stranger to a stage – whether performing in an ocean-front piano bar, an arena for sporting events or at a large-scale theatre – her versatility in ALL genres comes alive – from jazz to classics, country to R&B and her favourite; musical comedy, she can do it all!  She has had the thrill of performing for a large array of dignitaries including Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth and more recently, David Foster. She continues to lend her talent to many charities such as BC Children's Hospital, Make-a-Wish Foundation, CNIB and Santa’s Anonymous, to name a few.  

 

Diane Pancel Bio:

International award winning recording artist Diane Pancel is once again based in Victoria after 3 years working in Los Angeles. Best known and a Jazz and R&B singer, Diane is also an anthem specialist and has performed all across the U.S. at major sporting events for the NHL, NBA, MLS, NWSL and AVP. Diane's voice has also been featured on nearly 400 radio and TV advertisements, and on the CBS TV show “Vegas” as the singing voice of character Yvonne Sanchez.  Diane is a accomplished vocal coach, and recently contributed to the book The Ultimate Guide to Singing produced by TC-Helicon. Awards and nominations: Amway International Talent show winner ($10,000 prize), Molson Canadian National Singing Competition winner, CCMA National Singing Competition runner up, Nominated for 2 IPMA music awards (Song of the year, Best pop performance)

Karel Roessingh Bio:

Born in Leiden, Holland, raised in Calgary, Canada, Karel began his professional musical career in 1970.  He first studied piano under Henry L. Peters, then took jazz instruction from Ray Petch.  In 1973, he studied jazz arranging and composition at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed a degree in secondary music and mathematics education at the University of Victoria in 1981.

Charlotte Martin Bio:

Charlotte Martin has captivated audiences with her expressive vocal styling’s and dynamic stage presence across Canada, the US and Europe. Her compelling voice and extraordinary talent have gained her rave reviews and acclaim.

An incredibly versatile performer, she is capable of mastering a repertoire of gospel, swing, Latin, R & B, pop rock or jazz. This ebony beauty exudes confidence. Her vocal authority conveys emotions that range from sensuous and warm to bold with an infectious energy. Everyone who hears Charlotte sing can feel that music that is in her soul.

Blessed with a beautiful powerful voice and impressive range, Charlotte quickly generated attention and admiration in her hometown of Toronto; where her outstanding talents were showcased with Toronto’s best R & B bands. In 1976 she released her first single, and arrangement of “Dancing in the Streets” that climbed the top 40 charts on Canadian Radio. She has performed on radio jingles, television commercials and the music videos “Sound of Light” and “Prairie Soul”. She has performed with Gino Vanelli, and as a vocal coach for Courtney Love.

Charlotte has been recognized and respected for her dancing and choreographing ability. She has produced and performed dance routines with her brother Bobby Martin – who was third in the World Dance Championship, and he has worked with Madonna, Janet Jackson, and The Temptations.

When Charlotte moved to Winnipeg, she started working with the well respected Ron Paley’s Big Band, and performances at the Jazz Winnipeg Festival, Jazz on the Rooftop at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and numerous events and functions. She has performed and recorded with Walle Larsson and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. In 2001 she was a lead in the musical “Godspell”. She created and performs her concert show “Simply the Best- The Tina Turner Experience”. She is a featured vocalist on Groove FM’s “Groove Lounge” CD’s volumes one and two, the proceeds of which go to the Hunger for Hope campaign.

A compassionate and giving individual, Charlotte has shared her vocal magic at hospitals, churches, with seniors in nursing homes, and the Variety Club Telethon.

She donates her time as a vocal clinician at schools, colleges and contributes her talents to charitable causes. She does perform on a regular basis and as a vocal instructor.
