You may never have heard of this, but Tzinquaw is a full opera based on a Quw’utsun legend. First performed in the 1950’s, it was born out of a friendship between a music teacher in Duncan and his Quw’utsun student, Abel Joe. It featured an all-Cowichan cast and even toured across BC. Join us as we share music, history and images from this historic and little known event. The evening will also include a performance by indigenous youth as they explore traditional music of these territories and special guest Ron Rice, a descendant of an original cast member, will share stories and insights into this historic production in community.
